The BGC’s Community Activity Center, located at 113 N. Pacific Avenue, is home to a wide spectrum of activities, meetings, and events over the course of the year. The Center is made available for programs or events – organized by the BGC, as well as other groups and agencies – that can be of benefit to neighborhood residents. Among the groups the BGC has forged collaborations with are Garfield Jubilee Association, around its YouthBuild program; the IRS, around providing free tax-return assistance to lower-income households; and NeighborWorks of Western PA, around homebuyer education workshops. The space is also utilized by Alcoholics Anonymous for weekly meetings, the Garfield land trust for bi-weekly meetings, and Alpha Iota Sorority to host clothing drives and give children free haircuts ahead of the school year. Built as a United Methodist Church in 1898, the Center has been retrofitted with new heating, cooling, flooring, electrical, and window systems, thanks to a loan from Landmarks Community Capital Corp. The BGC’s Board of Directors meets on the 2nd Monday of every month in the main hall, and its meetings are open to the public.
